CONEY ISLAND MONDAYS
Coney Island Mondays is a durational photography project started in May of 2015 with the aim to document the Coney Island environment each week for a year. Coney Island is in many ways a magical portal into old New York, but its surface good-time shine belies a darker undercurrent of displacement and economic struggle. Currently it seems to be occupying a uniquely Brooklyn intersection of development and ownership, forward momentum and nostalgia. Every Monday, I take the D train out to Coney Island to capture whatever presents itself that day. My only objective is to show up and remain faithfully and continually open to the community that is slowly revealing itself to me, layer by layer, Monday after Monday.
The photos above are selections from May - August 2015. Photoshop is not part of my current practice. To engage further with this project please do #ConeyIslandMondays on the social media platform of your choice.
